Seph Lawless is another photographer who follows the abandoned theme in their photography but also goes for a more haunted style with some of his series. He has travelled to many different places for his photography like Disneyland where he names his series ‘Dismaland’ to represent how barren and forgotten the once thriving park now looks. The photographs he took is Disney Land are unique and compared to some of his other photography where he has gone to Haunted Houses and Abandoned Asylums he has still managed to capture that magical feeling of Disney in his photographs which I feel like he has managed to achieve, the lighting is colourful and not dark and depressive-like compared to some other photographers who follow the abandoned theme and it shows that you can really stretch this genre of photography.
Another piece by Lawless that really catches my eye is his series on Abandoned Asylums as this is more relevant to the photo series I wish to construct and looking at his techniques and lighting etc and comparing it to other photographers will really help me understand what I need to do to construct my piece. Unlike other abandoned photos I have seen Lawless likes to take his photos in the daytime and this adds for a powerful look and makes it look a lot lighter in terms of a dark and evil atmosphere. I do feel like in some of Lawless’s photos he has upped the contrast a bit too much as it leaves some weird artefacts in places (which I have circled below) so when I go to do some editing on my photos I will make sure to look out for little things like that.
