Barton Hill – Digital Shoot
Today I visited my first location and it is an abandoned house in Bury St Edmunds, near to where I live. It is a house they I drove past on my way to college and I had always wanted to look around the property and with this project, i am now doing it seemed like the perfect opportunity. Now I do not know much about the house itself but it is a very nice building with a lot of land and also a farm/commercial industrial building adjacent to it on the same land so it is good for different shoots and feels.
When we got to the property one of the doors were open, presumably because there were builders on the site and we managed to capture a few photos inside of the property. This sort of building would be perfect for my shoot but something that has dawned on me throughout researching buildings for this project is that I am in need of access to the inside of a building when I can some with props and other people to use as models but everyone I have contacted would not let me have access to the buildings so I think some changes in my original idea have had to change and I will mainly be sticking to exteriors of buildings.
After leaving the building I walked to the farm and industrial area where I managed to capture some really interesting photos and with this I am planning on coming back to take some exterior photos with a film camera because it seems like the perfect area for some photos and with film it can lead me to use the photos to expand my experimental techniques. Inside one of the barns, there was a broom hanging from the ceiling which was really weird and creepy but it gives me ideas to create some random scenes with my photo series when I come to create my final piece.
Overall this experience was great and I am definitely going to return in the near future with a film camera as it will add a new style to my work and it is something I can use with to experiment with different techniques, possibly some scanography and darkroom experimenting.
